With degrees in Saxophone Performance and Pedagogy (DMA, University of Iowa), Jazz Studies (MM, University of Maryland), and Music Performance and Education (BA, University of Minnesota, Morris), Joel Vanderheyden is a seasoned performer and educator in both jazz and classical styles. At Jefferson College, he teaches Music Theory, Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Appreciation, Applied Woodwinds, and directs the Jefferson College Jazz Ensembles. Vanderheyden has previously served as Director of Jazz at both the University of Minnesota-Morris and Oakton Community College in the Chicago area. He is a member of the Missouri Saxophone Quartet, and performs regularly with the St. Louis Jazz Orchestra. He has performed at the World Saxophone Congress (St. Andrews, Scotland, 2012), at jazz festivals in Switzerland, France, and Holland, and at notable stateside venues including Carnegie Hall, Blues Alley, The Dakota, The Artists` Quarter, The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, and The Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts. Vanderheyden`s debut CD was released in 2009 on the Mize Music label. It was named one of the Top Jazz Albums of 2009 on KCCK 88.3FM in Cedar Rapids, IA and called "One of the best jazz rock records to be released in years!" by Christopher Cooke on KIOS 91.5FM in Omaha, NE.

Cathy Boemler received degrees in Piano and Music Education from Murray State University (Kentucky) and University of Missouri-Columbia. She has previously taught in the Dunklin R-5 and Crystal City School Districts. Currently she maintains a private piano studio as well as accompanies numerous choral programs at Festus, Windsor, and Seckman High Schools

Kelly Quinn Krener received a Bachelor`s Degree in Jazz Studies Performance and a Master of Arts in Music from Webster University. She currently teaches Music, Jazz, and History of Rock & Roll Appreciation at Jefferson and Saint Louis Community College. She maintains an active performance schedule as a jazz guitarist in the St. Louis area.

Mr. Pappas has served as an adjunct music instructor at Jefferson College since 1999. Prior to Jefferson College, he was a music instructor for twenty-seven years in four Missouri school districts. While teaching at mostly the high school level, his band programs received numerous honors and awards including three national sweepstake honors. Personal honors include four time Teacher of the Year, MSHSAA Distinguished Service Award, numerous music merit awards, and multiple listings in Who`s Who Among American Teachers. At Jefferson College he teaches music education and humanity classes, is a core advisor, and sponsor for C-MENC. In addition to his teaching, he devotes time to composing and arranging for his publishing company, JPM Music Publications. He also serves as an educational consultant for Shattinger Music and Educational Programs Network. Professional memberships include NEA, MENC, MMEA, ASCAP, WASBE, Phi Mu Alpha, Phi Beta Mu, Kappa Kappa Psi, Missouri Bandmasters Association. He is in constant demand as a clinician and adjudicator throughout the Midwest and International regions.

Mr. Sikes earned a Bachelor`s of Music Education degree in 1999 from University of MO-St. Louis. While at UM-St. Louis, he participated in numerous ensembles, including the Wind Ensemble, the Jazz Ensemble, the Pep Band (also served as arranger), Percussion Ensemble and the AFRO-Cuban Ensemble. Ron has been influenced by some of the finest educators, including Mark Trautwein, Brad Madson, Dr. Claude Baker, Dr. William Richardson, Marvin Sparks, Jeff Hamilton, and Dennis Reis. In 2008, Ron Sikes completed is Masters in Educational Administration from Missouri Baptist University. Sikes` professional affiliations include the Missouri Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu, Music Educators National Conference, Missouri Music Educators Association, Missouri State Teachers Association, and Percussive Art Society. Sikes was given the "Blue Jay" award for his years of service and dedication to the Jefferson R-VII District. Sikes remains active as performer, teacher, and clinician throughout the area.

Master of Arts: Maryville U of St Louis

Mr. Mark Trautwein holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Southeast Missouri State University and a Masters of Arts degree in Educational Processes from Maryville University. He taught high school instrumental music for a total of 33 years in Marissa, Illinois and Hillsboro, Mo. He was selected as the Hillsboro R-III Teacher of the Year in 2002 and also received the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award the same year. He has been teaching the History of Rock and Roll for Jefferson College since his retirement in 2005. He maintains an active performance schedule as organist at Grace Presbyterian Church in Crystal City and the pit band director for musicals at Jefferson College.
